A couple of months ago, I’d begun to humor the idea of starting Invisalign at Winning Smiles Adult Dentistry to perfect my smile. I’d worn braces for several years as a preteen, and religiously wore my retainer for years afterwards. When the retainer eventually broke, I dragged my feet to have a replacement made, and at some point, it simply disappeared from my priority list.
Big mistake! Within just a few years, I couldn’t believe how much my teeth had slowly shifted! My overbite seemed to be more noticeable than ever, spaces developed between some of my front teeth, and I found my jaw sore from my misaligned bite.
After speaking with Dr. Spinella about the possibilities that could be achieved with Invisalign, I knew it was for me! Since in the grand scheme, the movement of my teeth would be minor, we decided on an Invisalign Express case which includes 10 sets of aligners, changed every two weeks, that would eventually correct my concerns.
INVISALIGN IS AN ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT SYSTEM USING A SERIES OF CLEAR THERMOPLASTIC TRAYS TO SHIFT THE TEETH.
While I’d been considering fixing up my smile for some time, the thought of traditional braces seemed dreadful. Invisalign, on the other hand, is nearly invisible, and since it is removable, patients are said to experience even easier dental hygiene upkeep.
After my consultation with Dr. Spinella, I decided to get the ball rolling on my treatment! During my Invisalign records appointment, Dr. Spinella took a series of photos depicting the structure of my bite from many different angles, as well as a set of impressions that were immediately boxed up and shipped to the Invisalign lab.
A couple of weeks later, I was so impressed by the treatment plan prepared by the techs at Invisalign! I was able to view digital renderings of my teeth drawn up from the impressions that Dr. Spinella took, as well as the projected outcome of the treatment. I could even view a brief video that showed exactly how my teeth would shift with each new Invisalign tray! To be able to see the expected results before even beginning the treatment was so exciting! I wanted to get started right away. Along with Dr. Spinella’s clinical approval of the plan, I gave the thumbs up and we sent Invisalign the OK to manufacture the aligners.
Invisalign requires two weeks to manufacture the trays and ship them back to Winning Smiles. My next step was to schedule an appointment to have my first set of trays to be inserted, along with my “attachments,” small tooth colored bumps of bonding attached to the teeth to assist the trays in shifting the teeth. I’ll be sure to update after my next appointment!
